Oregon Grape | Mahonia aquifolium
Oregon Grape

Southern Interior Native people extracted from the inner bark of the stems and roots, a bright yellow pigment they used to dye basket materials or porcupine quills. Although the berries are tart, many Native groups ate them, and made jelly from them for meats. Oregon grape leaves are also mixed with other plants that are used for medicine in a tea or as a wash.
