Nodding Onion

**Nodding Onion should not be confused with Meadow Death Camas (Zigadenus venenosus) which has a white flower and is highly poisonous.**

All Interior Native peoples used wild onion bulbs. They harvested the bulbs before flowering and ate them raw, steamed, boiled, roasted, or for flavouring other foods, such as salmon and meats. The bulbs were also dried for later use. Wild onions make an excellent substitute for green onions and chives. The crushed bulb has been used as a disinfectant and as a poultice by some Native groups.
