Berries
were eaten fresh as a snack or dried for winter use. Some Native groups
drank choke cherry juice to gain strength after sickness. The Interior
Native people used the Choke Cherry berries to flavour jellies and syrup.
The wood was used for handles especially on root-diggers. The bark was
shredded for decorating baskets rims. A decoction of the bark was used
as a tonic as well. |
